PRIVACY POLICY — WRITER STUDIO

THE SHORT VERSION:
Writer Studio does not collect, store, or transmit any of your data to anyone. We have no servers, no analytics, and no accounts. What you write stays on your device unless you choose to send it to a third-party AI provider — and even then, it goes directly from your device to that provider, never through us.
WHAT DATA THE APP HANDLES, AND WHERE IT GOES:
Text you write or dictate:
On-device engines, the default option: On Mac, this is Local (Ollama), running entirely on your own Mac. On iPad, this is Apple Intelligence, running entirely on your own device. Either way, your text never leaves your computer or device.
Cloud engines (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini) — optional, off by default: If you choose to enable one, the text you ask Writer Studio to rewrite is sent directly from your device to that provider's API, using an API key you supply yourself. Writer Studio does not see, log, or retain this text on any server we control, because we don't operate one.

API keys:
If you add an API key for a cloud provider, it's stored in your device's Keychain, protected by the operating system's own encryption. It's never transmitted anywhere except in the authenticated request to that provider's API, and never sent to us.
Microphone and speech recognition:
If you use dictation, audio is processed by Apple's system speech recognition to convert it to text. Writer Studio does not record, store, or transmit audio itself.
Preferences, History, and Custom Presets:
Your selected AI engine, rewrite history, saved presets, and similar settings are stored locally on your device. None of this is transmitted to us. Custom Presets may optionally sync across your own devices — Mac and iPad — via Apple's iCloud. This data stays within your own iCloud account and is never accessible to us.
WHAT WE DON'T DO:
We don't run any servers that receive your writing.
We don't use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
We don't sell or share data, because we don't collect any.
We don't require an account or sign-in.
YOUR CHOICES:
On Mac, you can use Writer Studio entirely offline with the Local (Ollama) engine and never send data anywhere. On iPad, Apple Intelligence (where supported) keeps everything on-device the same way.
You can remove a stored API key at any time from AI Engine settings, which deletes it from the Keychain.
You control which AI provider, if any, receives your text.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY:
Writer Studio is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children, because it does not collect data from anyone.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY:
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly. Material changes will be reflected in the app's release notes.
